As an expression, strategic planning is a misnomer. When vetting, testing, imagining, and organizing actions, your motivations are much more dynamic and zealous than the word strategic embodies. No one feels strategy with a burning desire. At YC, we lead with the dream.We are never planning for the strategy. We are always planning for th e dream. Dream Planning is a better frame than strategic planning because it accurately positions the yearning or needs driving the planning at the center. Strategies are subservient to dreams. They never lead them.

Eradicating White Supremacy Culture

The concept of white supremacy has been foundational in how most are taught to organize and value people across different races and color spectrums. To unlearn and undo beliefs and habits rooted in supremacy principles requires active commitment, humility, mindfulness tools, diligence, and personal work. We support those ready to do the work. 

Ecosystem Mapping and Field Analysis

We are interdependent on others; our work is to bridge across constructed differences. We do so by assessing and mapping the ecology, how the components within that function, and what moves the axes of power. We build bridges by naming and weaving overlapping values and interests.

Evaluations and Assessments

How will we know whether we are having the impact we seek if we don’t question those directly touched by our efforts? We believe data aggregation and analysis are integral to testing the results of actions, projects, programs, and initiatives. It is a modality for accountability, learning, seeing, feeling, and understanding the effects of our efforts. It is a counterbalance to good intentions.

Founder Transitions and Succession Planning

Founders are special beings. They are entrepreneurial, do what it takes to get things done, put in tons of uncompensated labor over the years, and have often resourced the organization or company personally when cash flow was tight. They invest so much into bringing the organization or company to life that they become deeply intertwined within its fabric. Thus, we enter conversations about transitions, successions, or changing positions, responsibilities, and roles within or outside the organization with care, consideration, and deep humanity. We do not operate from the binary of in and out.  We discuss and work with all stakeholders to understand their hopes and desires to come out of this process and plan accordingly. 

Leadership Development

We occasionally work with individual leaders with expansive reach and transformative impacts within their leadership positions. For them, we are sounding boards, strategists, advocates for their self-care, and reminders of what makes them extraordinary.
